Raut, a past contestant himself, had quite the showing during his initial run on the show last year. He skillfully navigated three victories, amassing a total of $98,000. Additionally, he participated in a history-making episode in January 2023 where every contestant displayed exceptional knowledge, answering every question correctly.
Following his initial run, Raut garnered some negative feedback from viewers. In since-deleted social media posts, he expressed his discontent with the show’s format, feeling it didn’t fully embody the spirit of a quintessential trivia competition.
Raut openly addressed this controversy in a recent article for American Kahani, an Indian American publication. He expressed his disappointment that the negativity from anonymous online critics overshadowed the positive memories of his experience.
However, his recent Tournament of Champions victory has him singing a different tune. In a post on the “Jeopardy!” website, Raut, who grew up in Illinois as the child of immigrants, recounted his initial attraction to trivia as a means of assimilation due to his non-traditional name.
“Years of dedication and perseverance were crucial in reaching this point,” Raut stated. “Victory wasn’t solely based on skill; a touch of good fortune also played a role, considering the caliber of my competitors. The unwavering support network surrounding me served as a shield, allowing me to concentrate solely on the competition.”
