Following the convening of the Central Election Committee meeting on Thursday night, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is anticipated to unveil its initial list of candidates on Friday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly set to announce its initial list of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. This information, derived from BJP sources, suggests that the list will be disclosed through a press conference on Friday, providing detailed information about the candidates.
Insiders within the party have informed ABP Live that the first list is likely to include the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The list is expected to feature candidates for crucial seats in Uttar Pradesh, such as Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Azamgarh, and Gorakhpur.
There are uncertainties surrounding the fate of Satyadev Pachauri, the current MP from Kanpur, due to factors like his age and local discontent. In Prayagraj, MP Rita Bhauguna Joshi’s proximity to the Samajwadi Party has reportedly displeased the party high command, potentially affecting her chances of receiving a ticket.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the MP from Gonda, found himself embroiled in a controversy related to a wrestlers’ protest. Additionally, attention is focused on the Pilibhit seat, currently held by Varun Gandhi, who has recently been critical of the Modi government’s policies.
The fate of Ritesh Pande, a former Bhaujan Samaj Party MP who joined the BJP, may also be disclosed in the first list. Doubts linger over the Badaun seat, currently held by BJP MP Sanghamitra Maurya, daughter of Swami Prasad Maurya, who left the party ahead of the 2021 UP Assembly polls.
The revelations are anticipated after the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting held by the saffron party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the meeting, attended by senior party leaders like BJP national president JP Nadda, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states.
The list is expected to target seats where the party aims to enhance its electoral prospects, particularly those where it faced defeat in the 2019 elections. Notably, Union ministers Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Mansukh Mandaviya, who were not given tickets for the recent Rajya Sabha polls, are likely to feature in the Lok Sabha elections.
