The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially revealed its Election Management Committee for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, with Sunil Jakhar, the state chief of the party, assuming the role of committee head. In addition, Jai Inder Kaur, the daughter of Captain Amarinder Singh, has been appointed as the in-charge of the Women Campaign Committee.
This comprehensive committee comprises 38 sub-panels, featuring a lineup of prominent leaders within the party. The announcement comes amid the ongoing farm agitation against the central government. Sunil Jakhar serves as the chairman and convener of the committee, with co-convenors including Rakesh Rathour, Anil Sarin, and Dayal Sodhi.
SS Channi is designated as the convenor of media relations, assisted by co-convenors Col Jaibans Singh, Vineet Joshi, and Hardev Singh Ubha. Jasmine Sandhawalia takes charge of media relations, supported by co-convenors Dhruv Wadhwa, Sunil Singla, Subhod Verma, and Janardhan Sharma.
The Manifesto Committee, responsible for shaping the party’s electoral promises, is led by Som Parkash, Avinash Rai Khanna, and Ashwani Sekri. Surjit Kumar Jyani, Jangi Lal Mahajan, Fateh Jung Bajwa, SS Channi, Ashwani Sharma, Shwait Malik, and Charanjit Singh Atwal are named as the co-convenors for this committee.
Notably, Jai Inder and Sandhawalia, who previously held the position of media in-charge for the Shiromani Akali Dal, stand out as the only two female members among the approximately 70 individuals represented across all committees. The formation of these committees signals the BJP’s strategic initiation of the election process in the midst of the ongoing challenges posed by the farm agitation against the central government.
